As in previous Jazz Guitar Weekends, we will have our new look format, which proved to be very popular. The focus will be on more playing time in the classrooms, by having smaller groups there can be more individual attention to students’ needs. As in the past, there will be lunchtime student jam sessions, (the tunes played can be the student’s own choice), and a Saturday evening concert featuring all the tutors.

K

There will be five tuition groups. In each group there will be a choice of six jazz standards. The tunes in Group 1 are the most challenging, Group 2 and 2A less challenging, Group 3 less challenging again, and Group 4 beginners in jazz. It is hoped that all students will leave the weekend with several more jazz standards added to their repertoire.
Student jam sessions will be accompanied by TOM HILL (double bass) and ANDY BOLD (drums).

ALL THE ABOVE FOR ONLY £170

To enroll please e-mail jazzguitar.jazzguitarclub@aol.com, phone, or text Trefor Owen on 07423 016888. Payment can be made by bank transfer or cheque. If paying by cheque, please complete an enrolment form.

Please book early so you can secure the group that has the jazz standards to best suit your level of ability.

As stated above, there will be five tuition groups. When you, the student, have selected your group, if possible, choose two, (expected minimum requirement), or as many tunes from that selection as you are comfortable with in order to get the most out of the weekend. It is hoped that all students will leave the weekend with several more jazz standards added to their repertoire. Whichever group you choose, it is imperative that you can play the melody and chords of the tunes you have chosen. Also, this event gives students who don’t normally have the opportunity to play with other people the opportunity to play in an ensemble group. By playing the chords of as many tunes as you’re comfortable within your group you will be playing with other people. The ability to play with other people is an art in itself.

The tutors will move around the groups giving students a two-hour session with each tutor – we anticipate that each tutor will have a different take on each of the standards. As was the case at previous weekends, the Friday evening tuition session will be two and a half hours in duration and the two sessions on Saturday will be two hours in duration. The Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon tuition session will also be two hours in duration. In each session there will be masses of playing time and also time for discussion and tuition. With smaller groups, there will be more playing time in class and the tutor will be advising instead of performing a two-hour lecture.

As we have stated at previous jazz guitar weekends, no one will be forced to
play and those at a beginner in jazz level will be catered for.

As there is no funding to underwrite this event, it has to be self-financing. Therefore, I reserve the right to cancel the event if the required number of student enrolment is not achieved. In these circumstances, for any money paid in advance, a full refund will be given. Wide choice of reasonably priced accommodation available in Wrexham and the surrounding area.
