As usual there will be Saturday and Sunday lunchtime student jam sessions, (the tunes can be the student’s own choice) and a Saturday evening concert featuring all the tutors.
Student jam sessions will be accompanied by BILL COLEMAN (double bass) and ANDY BOLD (drums).
The new format, which has proved to be very popular, will focus on more playing time in the classrooms, and by having smaller groups there will be more individual attention to students’ needs.
ALL THE ABOVE FOR ONLY £140.
£60 deposit is required on booking.

What’s happening
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY
There will be four tutorial groups.
Six jazz standards are chosen for each group. The tunes will vary from challenging to less challenging.
(Group 1 challenging – Group 2 less challenging – Group 3 less challenging again and Group 4 less challenging again). (Group 4 also caters for guitarists who are beginners in jazz).
The group that you choose should have the jazz standards that you don’t normally play or tunes you would like to be more familiar with.
When you have selected your group, (as the focus of the course is to be on more playing time in the classrooms),
learn to play the melody and chords of all the tunes in your chosen group in order to get the most out of the weekend. It is not imperative for you to be able to improvise over every tune in your group.
The jazz standards are chosen mainly for their harmonic content. Choose your group carefully. It is hoped that all students will leave the weekend with several more jazz standards added to their repertoire.
THE GROUPS AND JAZZ STANDARDS ARE LISTED BELOW
This fantastic event is only possible because of the enthusiasm and commitment of jazz guitarists from
novice to professional. Please book early so you can secure the group that has the jazz standards that best
suit your needs.
As stated above, there will be four groups with around eight students in each group, and the tutors will move around the groups giving students a two hour session with each tutor – we anticipate that each tutor will have a different take on each of the standards. As was the case at previous weekends, the Friday evening teaching session will be two and a half hours in duration and the two sessions on Saturday will be two hours in duration. The Sunday morning teaching session will also be two hours in duration and on Sunday afternoon there will be an extended student jam session when you will have the opportunity, (but only if you would like to), to jam with the tutors. In each session there will be masses of playing time but also time for discussion and tuition.
With smaller groups, there will be more playing time in class and the tutor will be advising instead of performing a two-hour lecture.
As we have stated at previous jazz guitar weekends, no one will be forced to play and those at a beginners
in jazz level will be catered for.
PLEASE NOTE
The event is self-financed. North Wales Jazz therefore reserve the right to cancel the event if the required
number of student enrolment is not achieved. In these circumstances, a full refund will be given.
