SUE PARISH/JOHN HALLAM QUINTET
Vocals meets sax tonight when Sue Parish, a regular at Keswick Jazz Festival, brings her three-octave range to North Wales, performing numbers from the Great American Songbook and classic bossa nova and taking her cue from Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and Blossom Dearie. Saxophonist John Hallam, well known throughout the North West, has worked with Clark Terry, Benny Carter and Randy Sandke. Line-up completed by FREDDIE GARNER (keys), DAVE TURNER (d bass) & PHIL BENNETT (drums).

DEAN MASSER
Leading UK based Saxophonist Dean Masser has performed alongside many of the leading names in British jazz; Ronnie Scott, Kenny Baker, Gerard Presencer, Clark Tracey, Don Weller, Mark Nightingale to name but a few. As a member of the late Jack Parnell’s quartet, Dean toured the UK and recorded a live album during a week-long engagement at Ronnie Scott’s, London. Dean has a number of television and radio appearances to his credit, and has recently recorded his first solo album. Entitled “Old School”, the album features pianist Max Turnbull, double-bassist Malcolm Creese and drummer Paul Robinson. Andy Prior and Jenny Russell are guest vocalists.

BROWFIELD/BYRNE QUINTET
This new and exciting quintet, led by three gifted young players, Liam Byrne (sax), Jamie Brownfield (trumpet) and Andy Hulme (guitar), brings a fresh and youthful approach to standards and bebop favourites of the 40s and 50s Blue Note era, plus more modern material. Their playing, which is far more mature than their faces, can be heard on BBQ’s CD “Keepin’ it Cool”, (highly recommended), which won a place at the 2009 British Jazz Awards.
